I’m an active user of Animoto as a video production platform. It’s easy to use and effective. Take digital images, upload them to the Animoto platform. Add some text and royalty-free music. Push to a YouTube channel.

But there are times when full motion video is necessary. And, once you get into full motion, you want to enhance the video with various techniques. That’s where patience are needed. It’s a learning process. And, chroma-key (green screen) is one of the more fascinating editing tools.

This is the first video I’m willing to post. There are a couple of minor issues that will be corrected in the future, as I learn more, but, overall, this is pretty cool.

Video editing software is the heart of the process. I used Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 for this video. I waiting for an upgrade to Platinum 10 to arrive, so I expect to be able to improve the resolution and impact of my videos in the near future.

I used a basic FLIP camera with a dark background for the main portion of the video. Layered in is a BTR clip recorded with Screencast-o-matic and a clip done with Animoto.

The FLIP camera yields an .AVI file, which I converted to .wmv, .mpeg and .mp4 using the AVS4YOU video converter tool. I wanted to see what difference the file format made. It makes a lot of difference!

While .wmv is the smallest file size, which is fine for general viewing, it did not work well for me with the chroma-key effect. I found .mp4 to be best, while .mpeg worked as well.

I want to thank Bill Myers – BMyers.com – for his tutorial on YouTube that enabled me to figure out the process. Now, it’s a matter of practice, and upgrading my equipment.

Over the last 18 years rebreather technology, ethos, training et al has changed radically. There is now a need for peer review of current thinking and as a rebreather diver / instructor / manufacturer you can be part of it.

Richard Remsberg, aka The A, was my brother-in-law. He was an enthusiastic individual who loved to travel. His sense of adventure was intensified when his father died of a stroke at age 69.

Richard graduated from Miami University in 1977 with a degree in broadcasting. He worked in the radio industry for nearly 20 years, beginning at 96Rock in Ocean City, Md & ending in Las Vegas at KOMP.

His passport bears stamps from Aftrica, Australia, Asia, Europe, Central and South America. Of all the places he visited, he loved Brasil the most, and moved to Rio in 2006. He learned Portuguese, taught English as a second language and served as a personal tourist guide.

He died in Rio of a stroke at age 56 on 1 April 2012 while dining with friends and listening to a Bluegrass band at a club on Copacabana Beach.
